Navigating digital pitfalls for your kids.


A free community event, Protecting Generation Now will cover the dangers for kids online vs. real life on social media and the brain science behind it with Dr. Lori Basey during Session 1. You will also learn practical safeguards to help ensure your kids do not fall into these digital pitfalls with Detective Sergeant Jason Kushmaul, Edmond's Police Department Digital Forensics Investigator during session 2.

For moms, dads, families, grandparents, and guardians, adults will attend both sessions. Students 6th-12th grade are encouraged to attend Session 1 only. During Session 2, students will enjoy activities and games. Childcare for birth-5th grade will be provided during both sessions. They will enjoy activities, games, and snacks.

Resources will be available at both Welcome Desks in the Main Foyer. There will also be multiple vendor booths with additional information.

    Detective Sergeant Jason Kushmaul, Edmond's Police Department Digital Forensics Investigator. Session 2 is for adults. Students, 6th-12th, will meet in Fellowship Hall for activities and games.

Dr. Lori Basey knows no limits when working with traumatized populations and mobilizing others to respond to devastation. She is a keynote presenter, delivering presentations to thousands annually.

Since 1991, she has specialized in acute psychiatric care including trauma informed therapeutic intervention following the Oklahoma City Murrah building bombing as well as the New York 911 disaster and the earthquake in Haiti. She is an expert consultant in trauma associated with war, exploitation, and natural disaster.

In 2006 she co-founded a not-for-profit organization, No Boundaries International, organized and staffed by volunteers. Although she travels on short-term international trips, her most recent focus has been developing outreach, therapeutic and aftercare services for those who have been sexually exploited and/ or trafficked as well as for the abusers throughout the nation.

Detective Sergeant Jason Kushmaul, Edmond's Police Department Digital Forensics Investigator, has been in law enforcement since 1998 and has been with the Edmond Police Department since 2001. He is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. Detective Sgt. Kushmaul is a Digital Forensics Investigator. He investigates many different types of crimes, including homicides, counterfeiting, sexual assaults, and insurance fraud. Additionally, he is a task force officer with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, where he spends most of his time going after perpetrators exploiting children online.
