“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

Fun, energetic, athletic, loyal and a man of God are the words that best describe Jerry Miller. Always ready to share with others the hope that lies within, he strives to meet people’s needs through the Adult and Senior Adult ministries at Edmond’s First.
As a child growing up, Jerry dreamed of becoming a dermatologist. Because of terrible allergies he felt he could help those who had similar problems. Instead, as a senior in high school, the Lord called Jerry into the Gospel Ministry while attending Falls Creek. After completing high school at Memorial High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University, in 1977 with a Bachelors Degree in Music, Jerry attended Seminary at Southwestern in Fort Worth, Texas, from 1984 to 1987. He joined Edmond’s First Baptist Church as Minister of Music.
When asked about his goals, Jerry indicated his main focus is based on Henri Bergson’s immortal words, “To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.” What greater glory is there than being more today than you were yesterday and more tomorrow than you are today? Through Jesus Christ we have all of life that is offered, and we have all the ability to become more like Him in life. Jerry’s greatest desire is for the Adult Ministries of EFBC to create themselves in His image and to be more like Him as we change and mature. Jerry knows God is still working in his life, and the Adult and Senior Adult Ministries will continue to be blessed with new relationships and ministry opportunities. Thankful for new opportunities of service, Jerry is thrilled to see people come to know the Lord, to see them grow and mature, and to be all they can for the Lord Jesus Christ. In the Adult and Senior Adult Ministries, Jerry knows God is using him to minister to maturing adults and to disciple them into a greater relationship with Christ.
Jerry has been married for over 45 years to Jessele Miller, retired Principal at Centennial Elementary School in Edmond. Their daughter, Jessica, is a young adult and is working at the Sunbeam Family Services. Son, Jordan, is also a young adult and lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jordan is a tumbling coach in San Diego at SoCal. His mother-in-law, Helen Ashely, lives in Edmond and is a member of EFBC. Sarah and Ethan are Jessica’s children and are currently attending Central Middle School in Edmond. Jerry is especially proud of his grandchildren!
Jerry loves to play tennis and to sit and play the piano after a hard day’s work. He loves to be with Jessele and friends.
Jerry’s enthusiastic approach to Adult and Senior Adult Ministry is summed up by his favorite Bible verse:
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
1 Peter 3:15
