An ordination service is the church’s way of setting apart a person for the Gospel Ministry. In both the Old Testament and New Testament leaders were ‘appointed’ or ‘set apart’ in a special way. Paul and Barnabas were set apart as missionaries by the church at Antioch (Acts 14:23). Ordination symbolizes God’s call to ministry, the candidate’s commitment of himself to the ministry in the will of God, and the church’s approval of the candidate for the ministry.
