Guest Speaker Dr. Chuck Herring
Growing up was a challenge because Chuck’s dad was an alcoholic. They had to walk around as though on eggshells, especially on weekends. Chuck’s mom was a Christian, and she faithfully took Chuck and his sister to church. His dad rarely went. When Chuck was ten years old, the pastor preached a sermon on hell. “Suddenly those times when I had violated God’s commandments shook me to the core.”
At the age of 30, the Lord made it clear that He wanted Chuck to leave the football coaching profession in order to enter the ministry. After much prayer, Chuck and his wife, Darlene, simply stepped out in faith and obeyed the Lord. They moved to New Orleans to begin training in the seminary. After graduating in 1986, he served as the pastor of two churches over a span of almost 17 years. Then, in 2003, he became the pastor of Collierville First Baptist Church.
Amazed. Blessed. Honored. All these words describe the way Chuck feels concerning the impact the Lord Jesus has made and is making in his life. Glory to Him alone!
