Trusting the Voice of Life

Scholars have debated the odd placement of this teaching of Jesus on the Door and the Good Shepherd, however, it flows well out of the story of the healed blind man if taken as a continuation of the same exchange with the Jewish leaders. This connection seems obvious considering the discussion of opening blind eyes in verses 19-21. This passage in John is chock full of wonderful imagery of our relationship with the Lord of all creation; His overwhelming love for each one of His “sheep;” caution against those who would steal, kill, and destroy; His coming to lead us into the salvation and security of His kingdom; and unity within His one great flock. In this discourse, Jesus makes several allusions to His claim of being the Messiah from God, even God Himself.

Make no mistake, although this Shepherd is gentle and loving among His sheep, He’s a terrifying force against any who would come against them.

Join a Connection Group (Sunday School) this week as we explore this powerful passage that gives unparalleled insight into the identity of Jesus Christ.
