Deacon Nominations

Nominations for election of deacons are being received.  If you know a man that you believe would qualify as a candidate to serve as a deacon, you may submit his name to the church office. The qualifications to serve as a deacon are as follows:

  • He must have accepted Christ as his personal Savior and be committed to following Him as Lord.
  • He must strive to meet all morals and spiritual qualifications set forth in the Bible in Acts 6:3 and I Timothy 3:8-13.
  • He must be willing to accept and abide by the spirit of the “Baptist Faith and Message,” the doctrinal statement approved by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000.
  • He must be willing to work in close harmony with the pastor, staff, and fellow deacons.
  • He must faithfully support the total program of the church.
  • He must be a faithful storehouse tither by giving at least 10% of his income to the Edmond's First Baptist Church.
  • He must abstain from the sale and use of addictive drugs for other than medicinal purposes, and from the sale and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage.
  • He must be 21 years of age or older, and have been a member of Edmond's First Baptist Church for at least one year to be ordained, or six months if he has already been ordained.
  • He must be the husband of one wife. (I Timothy 3:12).  He must have a biblically-ordered home life.  In the case of divorce, he must have been the innocent party in the case of adultery or desertion. (I Corinthians 7:10-16, Matthew 19:9).
