Shortly after joining Edmond's First Baptist Church (EFBC) in 2013, Pastor Blake told our church how God had led him to the Oak Ridge Community. Pastor’s “wrong turn” was the beginning of what God had already planned for this hidden community. As he shared the vision God gave him for Oak Ridge, we became very excited! We kept looking at each other smiling; knowing God had been preparing us to play a part in this ministry.
We were serving in an apartment ministry prior to joining EFBC where God showed us great mission opportunities right here in our city. He has been burdening our hearts for communities full of kids who have never heard about Jesus or the gospel. In Christmas 2014, we began a three week Christmas Bible Study on Thursday nights for the kids. We were blown away when God packed the little Oak Ridge office out week after week with 30 to 50+ people. God even drew other families from EFBC to help and they have been faithfully serving alongside us. God is still producing these numbers as we continue Thursday night bible study into its second year.
The Bible says that the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. The harvest is certainly plentiful at Oak Ridge! We have kids ages 2 to teenagers, who come week after week, hungry for physical and spiritual food! Additionally, parents have been asking for an adult bible study. It is exciting to be a part of God’s plan for multiplication at the Oak Ridge community. We are expecting great things from God as His church attempts great things for God.
