Billy Fuller is a home-grown product of Edmond’s First Baptist Church. Having grown up among us, the people of EFBC have had the privilege of watching God grow Billy up from a fun-loving, sometimes mischievous young boy into a fun-loving, sometimes mischievous adult. We have also had the joy of seeing Billy mature into a man of God, loving husband, and devoted father.
If pressed to define Billy in just a few words, you would have to include fun-loving, encouraging, laid-back, sarcastic, and devoted. These characteristics may seem to contradict each other on the surface, but there is so much more to Billy than what you might see at first glance.
As Billy focuses on the college ministries at Edmond’s First Baptist Church, his goal is to grow college students to be disciples, encouraging them to build long lasting relationships, and offering them opportunities to serve their community and have fun while doing it.
Billy grew up in Edmond and graduated from Santa Fe High School. He then attended the University of Central Oklahoma and graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Interpersonal Communication.
He shares with us that while in college God took him from a timid, weak individual and through personal Bible Study, great relationships, and campus organizations, “He grew me into someone who could believe in Him and His plan for my life without fear. I now love God more than ever before because I understand Him more. He taught me “Nothing is impossible with God”.
He knows that “God has a plan even though I am too weak at times to see it. His plan is better than anything I could imagine, so why not just let it happen on His time instead of being impatient and not enjoying the journey.”
God has poured so many blessings into Billy’s life. Billy and his wife, Angie, have been married since 2003. Their son, Ben, was born in 2005. Right now their home life is “pretty much all about Ben: parks, bike rides, pools, McDonalds. That is pretty much it. I love it!” he says. Angie serves with Billy in college ministry at Edmond’s First Baptist Church and to students at the University of Central Oklahoma. One of God’s immeasurable blessings is their son, Benjamin. “At this moment I love playing outside with my son. He is just at the age where he wants to explore everything. He is fearless and full of energy. It is incredible.” He also shares that Ben makes him laugh. He smiles as he says, “My little boy Ben…. That kid is hilarious!” But one of the best things in his life is being able to work at a great church with college students from his Alma Mater, UCO.
Billy enjoys books about history, mostly Presidential history. He smirks as he adds, “Why? Who knows - maybe one day I might be President!” In fact, that’s just what he dreamed he’d be one day....President of the United States! But when he was around 12 or 13 years old, God began working in his life. He knew that there was nothing he would rather do than to serve God, not just on a church staff, but wherever He might lead him. Today his goal is to see college students catching on to God’s vision for their lives in such a way that the local college campuses are drastically changed.
When asked what he is most thankful for today, Billy responds, “I am thankful today that I am here. Plain and simple.” Billy’s heartfelt assurance of God’s love and provision are proven in his favorite Bible verse. “I am sure of this that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion...” Philippians 1:6
